Who We Are
In the early days of February 2024, the opportunity to renovate and open my own salon at the location of the old Jade II was presented to us, and it seemed like a dream come true. My parents and especially my grandmother were beyond supportive and excited for this new business venture. My grandmother has always been my biggest supporter, my best friend, and the person I’ve always wanted to make extra proud. My nanny was the one that taught me how to apply blush, how to roll pin-curls, and so many other things. She always made me feel special and beautiful, and that's how I always wanted my clients to feel when they left my chair.
February 10th, the first day we began renovating the salon, my grandmother unexpectedly passed away. My life was changed in a short span of two hours. The person I wanted to be most proud of my new salon would never see it, but I wanted to make sure her memory could live on through it. That was when we finally decided on a name, Svea’s Cuts and Colors, after my grandmother Mildred Svea. My grandmother taught me that everyone deserves to feel special, comfortable with their looks, and cared about. Svea’s Cuts and Colors is a new, family-owned salon in Muncie. The salon is located in the same place as the salon I grew up in, Jade II. I spent a good portion of my childhood and high school years in that salon. It’s where my grandmother, mother, brother, and I spent more than a few hours every few weeks. That’s what originally sparked my love for all things cosmetology– sitting in the salon with my family and our long-time family friend and stylist, Julie, chatting about all things life and hair. Once I graduated beauty school I decided my ultimate career goal was to start my own salon where people could work and receive services in a fun, comfortable, and enjoyable environment.
